Full Job Description

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Transport Manager to oversee our transport and plant operations. As a Transport & Plant Manager, you will be responsible for managing a fleet of vehicles and plant machinery. You will be responsible for overseeing the maintenance needs of all vehicles and ensuring compliance with all transportation regulations., regularly reviewing and updating policies and procedures to ensure they adhere to current regulations

-providing training and education to all employees on relevant regulations and company policies

-establishing processes for monitoring and auditing, such as regular inspections or audits of vehicles and equipment

-having a system in place for reporting and addressing non-compliance issues

-staying informed about changes to regulations and industry trends by scheduling regular meetings, attending industry events and consulting with experts in the field

-having a process in place for addressing and rectifying any violations of regulations in a timely manner

-maintaining records of compliance activities and violations to demonstrate due diligence and track progress

-recruiting and hiring qualified and experienced drivers who meet all legal and regulatory requirements

-establishing and enforcing strict driver performance standards and holding drivers accountable for meeting them

-monitoring driver performance through regular check-ins, evaluations and reviews

-having a system in place for reporting and addressing any driving violations or incidents

-implementing a preventative maintenance programme for vehicles to ensure they're safe and reliable

-managing the fleet of vehicles, ensuring optimal utilisation and reducing downtime

-having a communication system in place for drivers to report any issues or concerns and addressing them promptly

-managing the inventory of spare parts and accessories for the vehicles and ensuring timely replacements

-conducting regular physical inventory counts to ensure accuracy and to prevent the organisation from running out of stock or overstocking

-encouraging cost-saving behaviours, such as reducing idling time, decreasing unnecessary mileage and avoiding unnecessary fuel consumption

-review any shortcomings such as prohibitions and/or annual test failures

-ensure that relevant changes are notified in accordance with operator licence requirements

-ensure that drivers hold the appropriate entitlement for the vehicle they are driving

-ensure drivers comply with the drivers' hours and working time rules and that all records are available and kept for the necessary periods

-ensure that drivers are properly trained and competent to operate all relevant vehicles and equipment

-ensure that a proper system of vehicle maintenance is in place and carried out and that all vehicles are kept in a roadworthy condition

-ensure that all required records are made properly and kept for the required period

Strong mechanical knowledge to effectively manage vehicle maintenance and repairs
- Knowledge of business processes related to transportation operations
- Excellent problem-solving skills with the ability to identify and resolve issues quickly
- Strong understanding of quality control principles
- Ability to assemble and analyze data to make informed decisions regarding transportation operations
- Continuous improvement mindset to identify opportunities for process optimization and cost reduction
- Solid understanding of supply chain management principles
