Full Job Description

Reporting to the Head of Transport, you will be responsible for managing, leading and controlling transport compliance and overall performance of the operation in a 24/7 environment.

As Transport Planning Manager, you will be required to manage the Huntapac Driving & Planning Team beginning to end, ensuring that they remain compliant whilst maintaining full Health & Safety for all.

This is a very fast moving, hands-on role, as second nature, you need to maintain very high standards, enjoys instilling a sense of pride and professionalism within your team and have a real focus on overall performance & compliance.

You need to show in-depth knowledge in areas of compliance (legislation, productivity, quality and service) in accordance with O licence obligations, and have a thorough understanding of how each element in the transport environment drives cost and profit

Role

Daily duties to include but not limited to

  • Oversee the Day to Day planning & routing of a fleet of up to 80 Tractor Units and 140 Refrigerated & Bulker Trailers


  • Minimise empty running


  • Effective planning of available labour & resource


  • Liaise with Farm & Pack house Managers on a daily basis to cover Inbound traffic


  • Liaise with the Despatch team on a daily basis to cover Outbound traffic


  • Build & maintain relationships with external customers to maximise resource utilisation


  • Ensure planning software is updated in real-time and kept in good order


  • Comprehensive & Timely completion of all relevant administrative tasks


  • Ensure drivers are fully Pre & De-Briefed in regards to their duties


  • Complete random checks on drivers and fleet to ensure high standards of cleanliness & roadworthiness are maintained


  • Liaise with service providers in the event of breakdowns


  • Effective scheduling of work ensuring compliance with both vehicle (PMI/MOT) & tachograph legislation (EU Drivers' Hours and the WTD)


  • Ensure Agency driver declarations and compliance are fully adhered to


  • Report any Accident and/or Motor Incidents to relevant managers to follow up


  • Refer wage queries, uniform & holiday requests to the Transport Administrator to action


  • Deliver the highest levels of customer service by liaising either directly with customers or through the site sales team


  • Keep customers updated in the event of a delay or possible late delivery due to unforeseen circumstances, breakdown, traffic etc.


  • Drive continuous improvement to both operational & service processes with a view to keeping costs to an


  • Daily completion of a H&S walk around the premises and forward report to Senior Management


  • Commit to inspiring & enforcing a positive H&S ethic within the team, ensuring a safe working environment exists for all


  • Manage The Planning Team on a day to day basis including Holiday & Shift Coverage


  • Communicate & provide feedback to the Planning Team on any up changes / issues


  • Assist the Transport Management Team with Driver & Planner interview's & investigations


  • Daily Meeting with the Transport Management Team


  • Weekly Meeting with the Operations Director


  • Prepare & report statistics for the Monthly Transport Meeting


  • Submit Movement Orders in the absence of the Senior Planner


  • Place Fuel Orders in the absence of the Senior Planner


  • Ensure all training & continuous improvements are put in place for existing & new members of the Planning Team
