Full Job Description

We are seeking to hire a Senior Underwriter Property Underwriter to work on our major national accounts., Prepare renewals and quotations, answering questions from Brokers, policyholders or other external contacts and escalate issues to management, along with proposed solutions as necessary.

Negotiate with Brokers to achieve positive and profitable outcomes.

  • Market products and services through the brokerage community and make field visits. Develop and maintains Broker relationships.

  • Provide guidance and assistance to other underwriters and to other functional areas, particularly when related to cross-sell opportunities.

  • Review applications and financial requirements for risks requiring sophisticated underwriting skills. Determine acceptability of risk in accordance with company guidelines and standards.

  • Define appropriate pricing based on financial and competitive analysis in line with compliance requirements.

  • Notify Brokers of adverse underwriting decisions, rate appeals, underwriting requirements, status and declinations.

  • Analyse quality and quantity of risks underwritten and prepare reports for management review.

  • Keep current on state / territory issues and regulations, industry activity and trends and freely share information with others.

  • Utilise advanced functionality in relevant CNA systems to perform day-to-day activities.

  • Work with more senior underwriters or management on risks exceeding authority level or requiring special handling.

  • Comply with all applicable legal and regulatory requirements and ensure that, at a level appropriate to the position, appropriate measures are in place to ensure this compliance

    Significant underwriting experience in Property.

  • Advanced knowledge of the Property products and market.

  • Prior experience of working on high premium national accounts.

  • Appropriate knowledge of all regulatory and legal requirements applicable to the position

  • Strong knowledge of underwriting and insurance industry theories and practices.

  • Demonstrated high level of technical expertise and product specific knowledge.

  • Strong interpersonal, communication and negotiation skills. Ability to effectively interact with CNA's internal and external business partners at all levels.

  • Capacity to work independently.

  • Strong ability to identify, analyse and solve problems as well as to learn rapidly, adapt quickly to change, and manage and prioritise multiple concurrent projects.

  • Skilled in exercising independent judgment and making critical business decisions effectively.

  • Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite as well as other business-related software.
