Full Job Description

Applications are invited from experienced; HCPC registered Biomedical Scientists with an MSc Biomedical Science (or equivalent qualification/experience) for a full time Senior Biomedical Scientist (Section Manager) post in our busy Haematology Laboratory which forms part of a Blood Sciences Laboratory service at this busy District General Hospital.

Applications will be considered for those who are able to evidence a completed IBMS Specialist Portfolio within the Discipline and are actively working towards MSC Qualification - and can evidence the other essential criteria.

This role would be at a Trainee B7 AFC Rate (70% of top of band) during this time and would transfer to AFC B7, upon completion of qualification.

The successful candidate will join our friendly team of experienced Biomedical Scientists and support staff and take a leading role in the day to day running of the Haematology Laboratory, supervision, training and competency assessment of laboratory staff and quality management according to UKAS standards, at this busy District General Hospital. The successful candidate will be part of the Hospital Haematology Team

The laboratory is well equipped (Sysmex, ToSoH and Werfen analysers [amongst others]), fully computerised (Clinisys LabCentre system), fully UKAS accredited and IBMS approved for training.

Along with other Haematology Section Managers:

Day to day running of the haematology laboratory - organising staff duty rota's to ensure service provision.

Line management of Laboratory staff - duties of which include (but are not limited to) - sickness management, performance management and people development.

Training & competency assessment of staff according to UKAS/professional standards.

Provide data as required to managers.
