Full Job Description

We are looking for an Operations Director to join our Infrastructure team and focus on our Energy projects. You will be a visionary Operations Director and will lead the development of a strong market pipeline, resulting in successful bid opportunities and profitable contracts. In this role, you'll work closely with Account Directors or Business Development Managers, leveraging customer relationships and Skanska's core capabilities to create winning strategies.

We have an impressive portfolio of energy projects, including in the fields of high voltage sub-stations, high voltage cable tunnels and both high pressure transmission and medium pressure distribution gas pipeline projects.

What you'll do:

  • Deliver operational contracts with at least the tender margin.

  • Drive profit expectations with full P&L accountability for projects.

  • Oversee Health & Safety, Quality, and Environmental management; develop an HSE sector strategy with your team.

  • Implement Laser Focus areas on all contracts (Design Management, Understanding the Deal, People Leadership, Quality, Forecasting, Reporting).

  • Regularly report to leadership team on progress and expenditure against budget; ensure proactive actions are taken to prevent losses and maximize profitability.

  • Manage effective teams through team building sessions and individual PDPs; uphold Skanska's Code of Conduct.

  • Promote fact-based management and continuous improvement in contract performance through effective performance reviews.

  • Support or lead business improvement initiatives; ensure stellar customer service.


  • What you'll bring to the role:
  • Excellent working knowledge of contract conditions/law.

  • Excellent communicator and people leader.

  • Successfully developed a pipeline in accordance with the sector strategy.

  • Energy sector existing customer relationships

  • Won projects in a tier 1 corporate governance structure.

  • Overseen a portfolio of projects and delivered to tender margins with projects or framework values ranging up to £1bn in value over 5-year period and turned over up to £250m per year revenue.

  • Negotiated successful contracts with customers to the business expected outcomes.

  • Delivered major infrastructure project above £200m from start to finish achieving tender or above tender P&L and customer satisfaction leading to repeat business.

  • Delivered business growth.

  • Understand and have demonstrable experience in the energy market in some of the following subsectors: Offshore wind, Substations / Interconnectors, Port upgrades, Hydrogen, Carbon Capture, Nuclear
