Full Job Description

We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Mechanical Engineer. The successful candidate will take a leading, hands-on role in the assembly of the mechanical aspects of our hydrometallurgical facility. Ensure all corrective and preventative maintenance activities are fulfilled, in accordance with industrial standards and clearly defined SOPs (Standard operating procedures).,

  • Support the mechanical design and engineering activities for the pilot chemical processing plant, ensuring adherence to industry standards and safety regulations.

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to develop plant operational procedures using OEM equipment specifications & purpose build equipment.

  • Maintain plant equipment including pumps, pipework, filter systems, extraction systems, chemical scrubbers, furnaces etc.


  • Equipment Selection and Procurement:
  • Evaluate and select appropriate mechanical equipment and components to optimise plant efficiency and reliability.

  • Support the chemical process engineer & work closely with vendors and suppliers to procure high-quality materials and equipment, considering cost-effectiveness and project timelines.


  • Installation and Commissioning:
  • Oversee the installation and commissioning of mechanical systems, ensuring compliance with design specifications and safety protocols.

  • Supervise maintenance teams to troubleshoot and resolve any mechanical issues during the installation & commissioning phases.

  • Develop detailed drawings and documentation for manufacturing and construction SOPs.


  • Maintenance and Reliability:
  • Develop and implement preventive maintenance programmes to ensure the ongoing reliability of mechanical systems and equipment.

  • Conduct regular inspections and audits to identify opportunities for improvement and optimise equipment performance.


  • Process Optimisation:
  • Work closely with the process engineering team to optimise mechanical systems for maximum efficiency and operational effectiveness.

  • Troubleshoot and resolve any mechanical-related issues that may impact the overall performance of the chemical processing plant.

  • Design modifications to existing pilot plant equipment under MOC (management of change).

  • Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to ensure project success.

    Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering or a related field.

  • Proven experience in mechanical design, engineering, and project management, ideally within the chemical processing industry.

  • Familiarity with chemical process industry equipment design.

  • In-depth knowledge of mechanical systems, equipment, and components used in chemical plants or similar fluid-handling industries.

  • Strong understanding of piping, pumping & filtering engineering principles.

  • Proven experience in sizing, modelling, and drafting industrial equipment.

  • Familiarity with industry codes, standards, and safety regulations.

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a focus on continuous improvement.

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams.

  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple projects simultaneously.

  • Strong commitment to quality and safety.

  • Proficiency with Autodesk software family for design and modelling purposes., Do you have proven experience in mechanical design, engineering, and project management, ideally within the chemical processing industry?, Bachelor's (required)
