Full Job Description

To deliver this ambition a new Safety & Regulatory Science team is being created which will be at the forefront of our fragrance transformation journey. You will co-lead the development and implementation of the Safety & Regulatory strategy for Unilever fragrances and their ingredients with the Fragrance Safety Science Lead, ensuring that our fragrances not only captivate but also comply with the highest safety and regulatory standards.,

  • Lead the development and implementation of a regulatory science strategy

  • Manage 1 Regulatory Scientist and 2 Safety & Regulatory Data Scientists including ongoing development and delivery of a team programme to meet current and future business needs.

  • Lead the development and implementation of a 'future-fit' data management and documentation system for fragrance regulatory compliance.

  • Collaboration with cross functional teams including R&D to design a roadmap that incorporates safety and regulatory requirements and foresight to support the development of a future-proof fragrance portfolio.

  • Collaboration with fragrance suppliers, trade associations and other external organisations to ensure a freedom to innovate for Unilever fragrances.

  • Ensure compliance of Unilever fragrances with Unilever standards and relevant regulations.

  • Actively monitor and manage emerging issues and trends related to global regulations and external opinions on fragrances or their ingredients.

    We are looking for the right candidate who will have a growth mindset and will embrace the opportunity to build a new team within an integrated and cross functional Unilever fragrance capability.


  • They must have significant regulatory science experience in the fragrance and/or FMCG industries, preferably globally.
  • Minimum BSc, preferable an MS or PhD in Regulatory Science, Biological Science, Toxicology, Environmental Science, Chemistry, or equivalent.

  • Experience of developing regulatory science strategies and teams.

  • Experience of strong internal cross functional collaboration as well as external collaboration such as within Trade Associations or Regulatory Authorities.

  • Strong evidence of strategic thinking in anticipating and managing future opportunities or threats.

  • Excellent communication skills especially communicating technical topics to non-expert audiences.

  • Proven experience in taking the initiative, being proactive to get things done and leading teams with these behaviours.

  • Ability to work in an international team.
