The office Christmas party etiquette

Christmas party_blog

Got the office Christmas party coming up? Before you down tools and head off for some well-deserved fizz, read our top 5 tips for surviving the night with your dignity intact.

1) Don’t get drunk and tell colleagues what you really think of them

Trust us, this won’t end well. You don’t need to be best mates with colleagues you don’t get on with, but try to keep it professional, or just keep out of their way after a few shandies!

2) Dress appropriately

Remember, you’re out with work colleagues and they form an opinion on you professionally. We’re not saying you shouldn’t get the legs out. But maybe leave the leather hot pants at home?

3) Dirty dancing is a no go!

We’ve all witnessed it and it ain’t pretty. A bit of Tina Turner Proud Mary is completely acceptable, but Lady Marmalade isn’t – this isn’t a Christina Aguilera video.

4) Don’t confess your undying love for a colleague

It’s most likely the vodka talking. If you think you may in fact be in love, wait until your sober, It’ll be more special for both of you and at least you’ll remember it.

5) Don’t call in sick the next day

Number 1-4 can all be forgiven and put down to one too many jager bombs, but phoning in sick is an absolute no no. No matter how bad the hangover is, you need to pull yourself into work and show up on time. Everyone else will be on the same boat and at around 11.00am you should start perking up.

Alternatively, make sure the party is on a Friday night. Then at least you can lie in bed all day and have two days to hope everyone forgets points 1-4!
