This shopper appears early in the season. They’ve made a list and they’re sticking to their top targets. Don’t waste your time trying to upsell or show them something different. They’ve already checked the spec and compared prices online. All they need you to do is to hand over the goods and swipe their card.

 

Dazed and Confused

Most frequently to be found in electronics departments, these shoppers are seriously out of their depth. Treat them gently, explain the technical bits in language they’ll understand and don’t make them feel nervous about asking really obvious questions. They’ll be so glad to find someone to help they’ll buy all the accessories as well.

 

The Christmas Fanatic

These shoppers love the whole experience, from Slade songs to the scent of cinnamon. They have an urge to splurge and, if you can help them to indulge their passion, they’ll waltz out the door laden down with cashmere throws and enough scented candles to knock out the carol singers.

 

Lunch Hour Browser

They pop in almost every day, first just looking for ideas and then with serious intent to buy. They’re shopping for the whole family and for the office Secret Santa so they’ll be spending on both pocket money toys and serious purchases.

 

Clueless Partner

Oh, dear. They’ve just one present to buy and even that’s too much for them. They’re vague about styles and sizes but willing to spend if you can help them to get it right. Please!

 

Christmas Eve Crammer

They leave it all until the last minute then fill their basket in one mad dash. Price is less important than speed, so help them make it out of the shop with everything on their list and you’ll earn commission by keeping focused until closing time. Phew!
